ST BRIGID

When planning the characteristics of our Hebridean 3 Ply yarn, I used my St Brigid design as a hand-knitting benchmark for the desired aims and objectives. I wanted the sculptural forms of my knotwork patterns to be revealed to absolute perfection, but I also wanted the resulting fabric to have a soft, luxurious texture. This would enable me to achieve a garment with an elegant silhouette: an aim which was not previously possible. I termed these particular requirements “body without bulk”, and the success we achieved is immediately apparent in the improved shoulderline and drape of the garment.

Here is the resulting Hebridean 3 Ply St Brigid, photographed in the colour Lapwing, at the famed Black Cuillins of the Isle of Skye, Inner Hebrides. I have left off the hemline fringe to illustrate that this is now a very viable option. The yarn pack does however, include enough yarn to add the fringe if desired. The photograph shows the design made in a new petite/small size.

The medium and large sizes of St Brigid are worked in Hebridean 3 Ply on 4.5mm needles with tension and measurements exactly as given in the book. An amendment is provided for the new petite/small size, to be worked on 4mm needles in conjunction with the instructions and charts in ARAN KNITTING.

IRISH MOSS

Irish Moss is worked in Hebridean 3 Ply on 4.5mm needles with tension and measurements exactly as given in the book.
Available in any colour of Hebridean 3 Ply.

NA CRAGA

Na Craga is worked in Hebridean 3 Ply on 4.5mm needles with a tension of 21.5 sts and 28 rows to 10cm measured over chart A pattern. Amended width measurements are shown in the detail. Revised tension, minor adjustments and schematic are included with the yarn.
Available in any colour of Hebridean 3 Ply.

MAIDENHAIR SHAWL

The Maidenhair Shawl is worked in Hebridean 3 Ply on 4.5mm needles with a tension of 22 sts and 28 rows to 10cm measured over Moss Stitch, producing the slightly shorter length.

ST CIARAN

St Ciaran is worked in Hebridean 3 Ply on 4.5mm needles with a tension of 21 sts and 28 rows to 10cm measured over St.St. Revised width and length measurements are shown in the detail.
