Sir William Burrell (1861-1958) was a Scottish shipping magnate who in addition to accumulating a large fortune, also collected art for most of his long life. He gifted his entire collection to his native city of Glasgow, where it is now housed in an elegant modern building ranked as one of Britain’s premier galleries. The Burrell Collection is eclectic and includes painting, statuary, tapestry, stained glass, embroidery and also garments. I used 15 of its exhibits as inspiration for the knitwear designs in A Collector’s Item. I wanted each piece to be something that Sir William would have collected if he had seen it. In addition to pictures from The Burrell Collection itself, the book contains the instructions to make my knitted designs. For the new colourways, bags, cushions and wraps that will be added during the coming year, amendments will be provided for use with the book.

Available in Hebridean 2 Ply in the Moorland Colourway as shown in the cushion or in the Lochside Colourway as shown in the Amphora Sweater. Please state colourway when ordering.

SUZANI WRAP AND VEST

Here is another example of the way our Hebridean 2 Ply yarn can capture the lustre of many different materials, from Greek ceramics to silken embroidery from Asia. The Suzani Wrap is shown in Colourway 1, which is a dramatic combination of reds and blues. We wanted an equally dramatic setting, so we photographed it at Eilean Donan Castle on the shore of Loch Duich, looking north-west along Loch Alsh towards Skye and the Inner Hebrides.

The Suzani Vest is shown in Colourway 2. For this new colourway I used Lapwing, Selkie, Erica and Red Deer on a background of Driftwood, Fulmar and Corncrake. Both wrap and vest are available in either colourway, and come supplied with an amendment to be worked in conjunction with the instructions in the book.

Medieval Tapestry

Medieval Tapestry is a striking and beautiful design. Worked in Hebridean 3 Ply on 4.5mm needles, the tension and measurements are exactly as given in the book.

Men's Medieval Tapestry

The men's version of Medieval Tapestry is also available in Hebridean 3 Ply. Worked on 4.5mm needles, the tension and measurements are exactly as given in the book. In the photograph the main colour is dark with a lighter contrast colour. Choose your own combination for a wide variety of effects.

KIMBERLEY

Kimberley is worked in Hebridean 2 Ply on 3mm needles with tension and measurements exactly as given in the book. The photograph shows the Kimberley worked in Red Rattle main colour with Pebble Beach contrast (insets and collar stripes). The four colours embroidered on the insets are Mara, Storm Petrel, Corncrake and Golden Plover.
Available in any combination of colours of Hebridean 2 Ply. Note: To order your own combination choose main colour first followed by contrast colour (insets) and then on the message section of the order form state your choice of four embroidery colours.

PERSIAN TILES BLANKET

Persian Tiles is worked in Hebridean 2 Ply on 3.25mm needles with a tension of 28 sts and 33 rows to 10cm measured over chart pattern. The revised measurements (slightly wider and longer) are shown in the detail. The photograph shows the wrap worked in Calluna main colour with Red Deer contrast.
Available in any 2 colours of Hebridean 2 Ply.

PERSIAN TILES CUSHION

Here is a very quick and very easy way to add combinations of our Hebridean colours to a home. The example shown here, in Spindrift and Solan Goose, is a subtle take on my original version. I made it to go with the blonde sanded floorboards in my living room. However, you can choose our colours to give many different effects. I know of a deep green leather couch that is beautifully graced by a pair of Persian Tiles cushions in Red Deer and Calluna. Just choose your mood. An amendment is provided to be used in conjunction with the book.

ELIZABETHAN JACKET

The Elizabethan Jacket is worked in Hebridean 2 Ply on 3mm needles with tension and measurements exactly as given in the book. The photograph shows the jacket worked in Clover main colour, with Dulse and Fulmar pattern colours.
Available in any three colours of Hebridean 2 Ply. Note: To order your own colour combination state main colour and two pattern colours in the message area on the order form.

MAXIMILIAN

Maximilian is worked in Hebridean 3 Ply on 4.5mm needles with a tension of 21 sts and 34 rows to 10cm measured over chart A pattern. The silhoutte is narrower and slightly shorter than the original. Amended measurements are shown in the detail. revised tension, minor adjustments and schematic are included with the yarn.
Available in any colour of Hebridean 3 Ply.

CECILY OF YORK

Cecily of York is worked in Hebridean 3 ply on 4.5mm needles with a tension of 26 sts and 30 rows to 10cm measured over chart B or D. The sweater has a narrower and slightly shorter silhouette than the original. Amended measurements are shown in the detail. Revised tension, minor adjustments and tension are included with the yarn.
