Dunadd
Celtic Sign & Symbol

Dunadd

My Dunadd design has become a classic icon of my work as a Scottish textile artist. As with many of my designs it began with a notion of place, history and culture which I translated into doodles on a blank sheet of paper. From there I polished them into finished motifs and then further translated them into textile media. The strength and power of the emblems turn a simple knitted wrap into a noteworthy piece of textile art, and by the same token, the simple knitted wrap allows the art to be displayed, worn and used in any number of ways. This is a truly versatile piece to embellish your home, keep you stylishly warm, or - as our Dunadd Vikings show - bring out the warrior in you.

As well as the original single colour version, Dunadd is available with the knots in either one or two contrasting shades. Please state your choice of background and contrast colours when ordering.

Graceknot

Graceknot

This is a flattering design for any age, featuring a long, graceful knot in Celtic style. Hence the name. The body is shaped in a very subtle A-line, and features triangular gussets at each side of the funnel neck. I used Solan Goose for this example, but it would also look good in any of our colours. Special thanks to Alyth McCormack for modelling here. Alyth is a Celtic singer with a swiftly growing reputation, and she was tempted into the studio despite being back home in Lewis for a well-earned holiday. AS

Keyknot Cushion

Keyknot Cushion

If you have never tried stranded knitting in the round, then this is an ideal introductory exercise. If you are already an old hand, then you will breeze through it. The key and knot patterns are surprisingly easy to knit, and you can concentrate on the round construction technique without having to worry about any shaping. Your reward will be a cushion for some deserving corner of your home. It has been designed to look good with the raised textures of Dunadd. AS
