ALICE STARMORE® NEEDLEPOINT YARNS & DESIGNS

As a designer and maker of textiles, I find that needlepoint is one of the most personally satisfying forms of textile art. I think there are three main reasons for this.

  • The medium allows great freedom for design, from simple geometric shapes and patterns, to elaborate portrayals of any complex form that fires the imagination.

  • Needlepoint stitching is simplicity itself: the action is both repetitive and relaxing, thus allowing the stitcher to concentrate on forming neat, even stitches. This means that perfect workmanship is within easy reach, no matter what the scale or complexity of the project. Small needlepoint projects can be literally tucked in a pocket or purse and are ideal for working on at odd moments. The work can be left off at any time, and picked up again at any point on the canvas.

  • A well-designed and stitched needlepoint, made in appropriate materials, is always a thing of beauty. It speaks of colour, warmth and endurance. It is not surprising that needlepoints, great and small, made down the centuries by both Queens and commoners, are now priceless objects to be marvelled at in many museums around the country.

We are therefore delighted to demonstrate that our range of unique Alice Starmore Hebridean 2 and 3 Ply yarns are perfect for stitching. We also present our exclusive hand-painted canvas designs for the dedicated stitcher.
