Story

The Greeks spared no effort when creating beautiful objects, and the bold forms which decorate much of Grecian pottery are striking in their precision. An amphora in the Burrell Collection, dated circa 540 BC, is a good example of expert hand-drawing and also depicts soldiers preparing for battle in the distinctive dress of the day. When designing this tunic, I took the stylised floral forms and the red and black colouring directly from the amphora. Our Hebridean 2 Ply colour palette allowed me to add the blue colourway from a radically different inspration – the moody loch and rocky landscape of the Uig hills on the Isle of Lewis.
